Tap FT to enter whole feet (or cycle to yards/miles), and IN to enter inches — tap a fraction tile below it to add a fractional inch like 3/8" or 5/16". The display always shows the running total as feet-inches-fraction, with a secondary readout in your choice of unit (tap it to cycle through ft, in, yd, m, cm, mm).
Use +, −, ×, ÷ to chain multiple measurements together — handy for totaling a run of studs, adding up cut lengths, or splitting a board into equal sections without converting fractions by hand.
Construction measurements almost never land on a clean decimal. A tape measure reads in feet, inches, and eighths or sixteenths of an inch — not tenths — so a phone's built-in calculator is actually the wrong tool for the job. Converting 3'-7 5/8" to a decimal, adding it to 2'-11 3/8", and converting the result back to a tape-readable measurement by hand is where most on-site measurement errors actually happen, not in the tape reading itself.
This tool keeps everything in the units you're already reading off the tape, so there's no manual conversion step to get wrong.
Say you're framing a wall and need the total length of three stud sections: 4'-2 1/2", 3'-9", and 2'-6 3/4".
Enter the first measurement, press +, enter the second, press + again, enter the third, then press =. The running total updates after each step, so you can catch a typo immediately instead of re-adding everything at the end. For this example, the total comes out to 10'-6 1/4".
Tap the secondary unit readout to see the same total in decimal feet or metric, if you need to cross-check against a drawing dimensioned differently.
What's the smallest fraction this handles?
Down to 1/16", which covers standard tape measure markings. Results round to the nearest 1/8" for display, matching how measurements are typically called out on site.
Can I mix feet-inch entries with metric ones?
Yes — cycle the IN button to meters, centimeters, or millimeters, and it converts on the fly so you can add a metric spec sheet dimension to an imperial tape reading without doing the conversion yourself first.
Does this replace a construction calculator like a Calculated Industries model?
